Visit Crowborough
The rural market town of Crowborough occupies a prominent position within the unique and nationally important High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), previously the industrial heartland of England in the 16th and 17th Centuries. The town also borders the Ashdown Forest, once a royal hunting ground of both Edward III and Henry VIII. Because Crowborough is one of the highest points in Sussex - 240 meters (787 ft) above sea level, it is not surprising that there are stunning views of the surrounding countryside in all directions.
There are several cultural and historical associations within the area. The famous Winnie the Pooh stories were based in nearby Ashdown Forest and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle creator of Sherlock Holmes, was probably Crowborough's most famous resident. The town boasts a statue of him which was designed and cast in bronze by the international sculptor David Cornell.
The towns Farmers' Market is held on the 4th Saturday of every month.
