Visit Polegate
Until the development of the railways in 1846 Polegate was a small settlement in the Parish of Hailsham. In 1968, the Cuckoo Line closed and became a footpath and during the 1990's was converted into a cycle route called the ‘Cuckoo Trail'. The town is now a starting point for the Cuckoo Trail, which meanders through the East Sussex countryside passing through Hailsham and finishing in Heathfield.
To the south are magnificent views of the South Downs which stretch along the skyline to the famous white cliffs at Beachy Head, the start of the South Downs Way - an attractive walk through unspoilt countryside across Sussex and into Hampshire.
