Quality ratings you can trust
We only promote visitor accommodation that has been quality assessed (or is awaiting assessment) by either Visit Britain - Quality in Tourism; the AA or the Local Area Assessment Scheme.
Each establishment has been assessed against nationally recognised criteria. This ensures that when you are choosing accommodation you can be assured that your room has been checked out before you check in.
There are five main accommodation types and a rating of 1 to 5 stars. So for example, a hotel awarded 3 stars would have a rating of 3* Hotel. Here is a summary of the rating system:
- Serviced Accommodation: Hotels / Budget Hotels (no star ratings) / Guest Accommodation
- Non Serviced Accommodation: Self Catering / Camping & Holiday Parks
Star ratings made easy:
1 star - simple, practical, no frills
2 stars - well presented or well run
3 stars - good level of quality and comfort
4 stars - excellent standard throughout
5 stars - exceptional with a degree of luxury
The AA and Visit Britain have their own additional awards, identifying establishments which excel in excellence, customer service, cleanliness and attention to detail.
Visit Britain Gold & Silver Awards & AA Highly Commended Awards
Gold & Silver and AA Highly Commended awards are given in recognition of exceptional quality within a property's star rating, or for outperforming a star rating.

We hope that you don't have reason to complain about your accommodation, but if you do and the matter has not been resolved with the establishment during your visit then you can write to Quality in Tourism or The AA who will investigate the details of your complaint with the establishment as part of the National Quality Assessment Scheme.
